Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has criticized lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju in response to his condemnation of recent demolitions in Abuja. Adeyanju, alongside activist Vincent Martins Otse (known as VeryDarkMark), led a protest last Friday against Wike's actions, specifically the demolition of Ruga, a settlement along Airport Road.
Adeyanju argued that the demolition was unjustifiable and called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter.
In an interview on Wednesday, Wike dismissed Adeyanju’s criticisms, describing him as "jobless" and claiming that Adeyanju had previously asked to be appointed as the Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—a request Wike says he turned down.
"I saw this young man, Adeyanju, from Kogi State. He approached me, wanting to become the PDP National Publicity Secretary, and I said no. I have no regrets. Now, he has suddenly taken up the role of a civil society activist because he has no job," Wike stated.
