Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury, ruling him out of the upcoming Champions League match against Liverpool, the club confirmed on Monday.
According to a statement from Real Madrid, the 24-year-old Brazilian winger suffered the injury to his left leg, and following medical tests, it was confirmed that he would be sidelined. Spanish reports suggest Vinicius will miss approximately one month of action, which includes the Champions League clash at Anfield on Wednesday as well as the upcoming match against Atalanta on December 10.
Vinicius had played the full 90 minutes in Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Leganes in La Liga on Sunday, where he provided the assist for Kylian Mbappe’s opening goal.
The winger has been in excellent form this season, outshining summer signing Mbappe. He has netted eight goals in La Liga and scored four goals in the Champions League, helping Madrid recover from a rocky start to their European campaign. Despite two losses in their first four group-stage games, Real Madrid, the reigning Champions League champions, remain hopeful of advancing.
Liverpool, who are leading both the Champions’ League group and the Premier League under new manager Arne Slot, will now face a Madrid side missing one of their key players.
