Social media activist Martins Ortse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, expressed his views on Friday, stating that religion has “blinded and finished” Nigerians and Africans. His comments came in response to Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), who recently apologized for his assertion that Christians who do not pay tithe will not make it to heaven.
Pastor Adeboye had previously indicated that tithing was a requirement for salvation. However, during a recent address to his congregation, he clarified that this statement was a “mistake” and emphasized that the Holy Bible does not make such a claim. He underscored that living a peaceful and holy life is what truly matters for attaining heaven.
In his Instagram post, VeryDarkMan stated, “I’m pleased with what Papa Adeboye revealed, and I’m looking forward to hearing from other pastors like David Ibiyeomie, who preach about tithing. The leading figure among religious leaders in Nigeria has apologized for saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you won’t make it to heaven, emphasizing that it's not found in the Bible.”
He further questioned, “What else have they told us that isn't in the Bible? That's what concerns me; how many things have been manipulated to fit their agendas? I’m relieved that Papa Adeboye acknowledged these issues. Just imagine how many others will eventually apologize for manipulating the faithful and twisting biblical teachings to suit their narratives.”
VeryDarkMan continued, “Religion has blinded and harmed us in Africa, and I will keep speaking out about the detrimental effects of religion on our society. I’m eager to hear from those who claim that prayer alone will not move Nigeria forward. I hope that God inspires Pastor Adeboye to ensure that the tithes collected are used to create jobs and uplift the people of our country.”
