Controversial social media activist VeryDarkMan has claimed that rapper Naira Marley confessed to owing his late signee, Mohbad, an undisclosed amount of money prior to the singer’s untimely death.
Mohbad passed away under controversial circumstances in September 2023, shortly after leaving Naira Marley’s Marlian Music. His departure was reportedly due to the record label's alleged failure to uphold their contract.
The circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death sparked widespread speculation, with many pointing fingers at Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry. A viral video showing Sam Larry assaulting Mohbad before his death further fueled public outrage.
On October 6, 2023, both Naira Marley and Sam Larry were arraigned and remanded in connection with the case. However, they were later granted bail after pleading not guilty. Despite their plea, a significant portion of the public continues to accuse them online and boycott Naira Marley’s music.
In a video shared on social media ahead of Mohbad’s 28th posthumous birthday, VeryDarkMan disclosed that he had offered Naira Marley the opportunity to use his platform to present evidence and clarify his side of the story, but the rapper declined.
“I asked Naira Marley why he hasn’t come forward to share evidence about their business dealings, as he clearly owed Mohbad money,” VeryDarkMan revealed. “He told me how much he owed—it wasn’t a small amount. He explained that their issues began when Mohbad started working outside the record label’s contract and requested a change in management.”
VeryDarkMan added, “I urged him to address Nigerians and explain what transpired between them, but he said God would fight his battles.”
The case continues to stir public interest, with many awaiting further clarity on the events that led to Mohbad’s death.
