November 27, 2024 UCL: Guardiola Reveals the Truth Behind Scratches on His Nose and Face

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, offered a strange explanation when asked about a cut on his nose following his team’s disappointing 3-3 draw with Feyenoord in the Champions League.

The cut was visible when Guardiola arrived at the Etihad Stadium for the match, and after the game, additional scratches were seen on his head, coinciding with the team's dramatic collapse from a 3-0 lead.

Guardiola’s response was unorthodox when questioned about the injury: “I cut it with my finger,” he said during a press conference. He then appeared to make a joke, adding, “I want to hurt myself.”

City had seemed on track for a comfortable victory with two goals from Erling Haaland and one from Ilkay Gundogan, but a string of defensive mistakes allowed Feyenoord to level the score with three goals in the last 15 minutes. The draw marked the sixth consecutive game without a win for City, a run they haven’t experienced since Guardiola’s first season in charge.
