August 14, 2023 Tunde Bakare to Tinubu: Target Corruption, Not Nigerians

During a "State of the Nation" address on Sunday, Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, called upon President Bola Tinubu to combat the corruption plaguing the nation's economy.

Pastor Bakare emphasised that while some palliative measures have been announced, they cannot address the core issue.

In a strongly-worded message, he urged President Tinubu to tackle the root causes of the problem. He appealed for the removal of the burden on people with low incomes, the pursuit and recovery of looted funds, and their redirection for the betterment of Nigerians.

In concise terms, Pastor Bakare's message was clear: eradicate corruption, not harm Nigerians.

Bakare's words resonated widely, reflecting the sentiments shared across the nation. These sentiments manifested through short-lived nationwide protests and prolonged negotiations between organised labour and the Federal Government, prompted by increases in fuel prices due to subsidy removal and the escalating cost of living.
