U.S President-elect Donald Trump has announced that tech billionaire Elon Musk will play a leading role in the newly established Department of Government Efficiency. Musk will be joined by entrepreneur and political figure Vivek Ramaswamy, and together they will work to streamline federal operations.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, and shared by Musk via his X account on Wednesday, outlined Trump’s vision for the department, commonly referred to as DOGE. Trump stated that Musk and Ramaswamy's leadership would help his administration “dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excessive regulations, reduce wasteful expenditures, and overhaul federal agencies.” The department will coordinate with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to “drive large-scale structural reform and bring an entrepreneurial mindset to government operations.”
Musk, who owns social media platform X, electric vehicle giant Tesla, and internet service provider Starlink, has been a prominent supporter of the Trump-Vance ticket, donating $75 million to pro-Trump groups, according to Reuters.
