The Presidential Election Petition Court has rejected the application for the live telecast of the ongoing election petitions proceedings, stating that it lacks merit.
The five-man panel, headed by Justice Haruna Tsammani, emphasized that allowing cameras in the courtroom requires a legal basis and policy direction.
The court emphasized that it can only operate within the approved practice directions and procedures set by the President of the Court of Appeal.
Justice Tsammani expressed concerns about the potential dramatization of proceedings if live broadcasts were permitted.
Additionally, the court stated that the request for live broadcast was not a relief sought by the petitioners and would not impact the determination of the petitions.
It highlighted that the petitioners failed to establish how live broadcasting would advance their case.
