August 6, 2024 Trial Of Suspects Arrested During Protests Has Begun – IGP

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that trials for suspects arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests have commenced. The police had reported on Monday that over 800 individuals had been detained for various offenses related to the protests.

During a meeting of security agency heads in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun mentioned that, in Kano, the trials are being conducted at the police headquarters due to the large number of suspects. He stated, “I want to inform you that the trials of those arrested during the protests have begun.

In Kano, for example, because of the large number of arrests, the magistrate moved to the police headquarters, and that is where the trials are currently ongoing. If you visit the police headquarters in Kano now, you will see that the arrested individuals are already being tried. We are not keeping them indefinitely.”
