A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Nasarawa State University as three students were feared dead during a chaotic stampede while awaiting rice palliatives from the state government.
The harrowing event transpired at the convocation square, where bags of rice were stored, awaiting the arrival of Governor Abdullahi Sule for distribution. Eyewitness Moses Ajah recounted how the overwhelming crowd overwhelmed security personnel, resulting in a stampede. Ajah lamented the unfortunate turn of events, stating that some students sustained injuries and were receiving treatment on campus.
Despite the absence of the governor, some students managed to seize bags of rice and flee to their accommodations. Meanwhile, police officers were observed reclaiming the palliatives from students. Abraham Ekpo, the university's information and protocol officer, acknowledged the incident but awaited further details.
