January 10, 2024 Tinubu Slashes Nigerian Government Foreign Trips Delegation

President Bola Tinubu has directed a 60% slash in all official domestic and international travel in his office, that of the Vice President and the First Lady.

Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale said it is part of the president's cost-cutting measures.

While briefing State House correspondents at the presidential villa in Abuja, Ngelale said the directive cuts across the entire federal government, including the Office of the Wife of the Vice President and all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The presidential spokesman said ministers are now limited to four people for foreign trips, while heads of agencies can only travel with two people.

He also said President Tinubu approved that he will no longer allow huge security delegations anywhere he travels within this country, which attracts massive bills concerning estacode and duty allowances.

A former minister of education, Ibrahim Shekarau, has reacted to the president’s directive, saying all other arms of government should emulate the move.
