September 12, 2024 Tinubu Approves N108bn For States To Tackle Flood and Erosion

President Bola Tinubu has approved N108 billion for the 36 states to address flooding and other natural disasters. This was revealed by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday during a meeting at the State House in Abuja.

While receiving Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, Shettima described the flooding in Maiduguri as a "national calamity" and emphasized the President’s commitment to tackling the crisis. "The President has shown his dedication to partnering with states to address these issues," Shettima said. He added that Tinubu recently approved N3 billion for each state to help mitigate these challenges, ensuring that all regions feel included.

Shettima also praised Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership in the National Assembly, particularly in maintaining stability despite a large number of newly sworn-in members. "There is great stability in the House of Representatives, and we commend you for providing that leadership," he remarked, noting the importance of a harmonious relationship between the executive, legislature, and judiciary in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.

Speaker Tajudeen expressed his sympathy to Shettima, President Tinubu, and the people of Borno State, pledging the National Assembly’s support for those affected by the disaster. "We in the National Assembly are committed to offering support to the affected communities. We share your pain and concerns," he said. Tajudeen also assured that efforts would be made to help restore the livelihoods of those displaced by the flooding.

He concluded by asking Shettima to convey the National Assembly's sincere condolences and support to the governor and people of Borno State.
