It’s D-day today as Nigerians wait in bated breath as the Supreme Court will today, October 26, 2023, to deliver judgment in the cases of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi; the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar; and the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Bola Tinubu.
A seven-member panel of the court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, will be giving judgment on the matter today after counsels to parties adopted their briefs of argument and made final submissions on Monday.
The PDP and the LP are challenging the declaration of President Bola Tinubu of the APC as the poll winner.
The Presidential Election Petitions Court had in September dismissed their petitions against Tinubu.
Displeased, the two major opposition parties and their candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the LP, approached the Supreme Court seeking to overturn Tinubu’s victory.
The apex court, on Monday, heard the cases and on Wednesday announced that judgment would be delivered today.
At its last sitting on Monday, the apex court reserved judgment filed by Atiku and the PDP, the Labour Party, and Peter Obi against the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which affirmed Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential poll.
While the Allied People's Movement's (APM) petition was rejected because it lacked prayers for determination.
