The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported a significant milestone in the nation’s power sector, with electricity generation reaching an impressive 5,713.60 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. This figure marks the highest power generation recorded in the country over the past four years, showcasing a notable leap in energy production for 2025.
According to TCN’s latest data, the entire 5,713.60MW generated on Tuesday was successfully transmitted across the grid. This new peak surpasses the previous high of 5,543.20MW, recorded on February 14, 2025, by 170.40MW. The achievement was logged at 21:30 hours, signaling a robust improvement in Nigeria’s power infrastructure this year.
While this figure falls 88MW short of the all-time record of 5,801.60MW set on March 1, 2021, TCN emphasized that it remains a commendable feat. The company also highlighted a simultaneous rise in maximum daily energy, which hit a historic high of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh) on the same day. This exceeds the prior record of 125,159.48MWh, set on February 14, 2025, by 382.58MWh.
“This new peak of 5,713.60MW and the record-breaking daily energy of 125,542.06MWh reflect significant progress in Nigeria’s electricity industry,” TCN stated. The increase underscores ongoing efforts to bolster power generation and distribution, offering a promising outlook for the nation’s energy future.
