My Change Of Name Well Documented, Atiku Opens Up

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s Presidential Candidate at the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, said he legally changed his name from Siddiq Abubakar.

A statement released in Abuja by his media aide, Paul Ibe, said it is on record that the change of name of the former Vice President reverting to Atiku Abubakar from Siddiq Abubakar is well documented in an affidavit dated 18th of August 1973, spanning over 50 years.

The Atiku Media Office said an attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to drag the former Vice President into forgery must be seen as an effort to minimise allegations of forgeries against President Bola Tinubu.

While asking the President and his handlers to desist from further comparing him and Atiku, the statement said all the names that Atiku Abubakar bears are traceable to his family tree.

Atiku Denies Forging His Waec Certificate

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has explained the discrepancies in his Ordinary Level (O Level) Certificate.

In a post on his X platform, Atiku offered the clarification through one of his aides and former Presidential aspirants of the party, Dele Momodu.

According to Momodu, the clarification follows allegations of forgery against his principal by All-Progressives Congress (APC) members, who had questioned the name” Sadiq Abubakar” in Atiku’s WAEC certificate as against his other credentials.

Momodu said Atiku used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for WAEC, and after passing the exams, he swore to an affidavit that he was the same person as Atiku Abubakar.

He went further that the former Vice President attended Ahmadu Bello University as Atiku Abubakar, passed with the name, and got into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar.

However, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, faulted the result.

Documents From Tinubu’s Chicago University Delivered To Atiku’s Legal Team

The Chicago State University (CSU) has released the school documents of President Bola Tinubu to the presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku had requested the documents to back his allegation of forgery of the CSU certificate against Tinubu, to say Tinubu was not qualified to run for the election, which he won.

The President had supplied certificates from the Chicago State University to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to secure eligibility to participate in the election.

On Saturday, a United States of America court ordered CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records for verification and in support of Atiku’s petition challenging the result of the 2023 presidential poll.

In a judgment, Justice Nancy Maldonado dismissed the objection Tinubu raised against Atiku’s request and expressly ordered that the CSU submit the academic records to Atiku.

Subsequently, the university presented to Atiku’s legal team a cache of documents connected to the President’s education at the institution and copies of certificates with redacted names issued to other persons about the same time the Nigerian President finished school in 1979.

Atiku Takes Case To Supreme Court, Seeks Nullification Of Tribunal Verdict

Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has taken his case to the Supreme Court, aiming to overturn the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court that affirmed Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election on September 6.

Atiku, in a Notice of Appeal consisting of 35 grounds, asserts that the tribunal, in the judgment delivered by Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, made serious errors and miscarried justice in its findings and conclusion regarding the petition contesting Tinubu's declaration as President by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The recently filed Notice of Appeal by Atiku's lead counsel, Chief Chris Uche, SAN, implores the Supreme Court to set aside the entire findings and conclusions of the Tribunal, arguing that they did not accurately represent the true essence of the grounds of his petition.

Among other contentions, the former Vice President maintains that the Tribunal committed a legal error by not annulling the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022. According to evidence presented before the tribunal, INEC conducted the election based on severe and significant misrepresentation, which contradicts the principles outlined in the Electoral Act 2022 and contravenes the "doctrine of legitimate expectation."
