In Ekiti State, gunmen suspected of being herdsmen have killed two traditional rulers.

The incident was said to have happened between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in Ajoni Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area, were attacked by the gunmen while returning from a meeting.

Sources reportedly disclosed that another monarch, Alara of Ara in Ikole Local Government Area, narrowly escaped when the armed men accosted them and attempted to take them away forcefully.

A source was quoted as saying that the monarchs were travelling together before the armed herders stopped them and rained bullets on them. The source added that their assailants took their personal belongings and dragged their bodies into the bush.
