March 24, 2025 Super Eagles: Muhammed Praises Chelle’s Leadership Approach

Alhaji Adam Mouktar Muhammed, the forward-thinking Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Football Association (FCTFA), is optimistic that the exceptional leadership of coach Eric Sékou Chelle will ultimately benefit the Super Eagles in their pursuit of a spot at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Reflecting on the team’s exhilarating 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, Muhammed praised the Super Eagles for their purposeful and determined performance, expressing confidence that the Franco-Malian coach will continue to elevate the squad.

“Congratulations to Nigeria, the NFF, the players, and the fans for this crucial away triumph against Rwanda,” Muhammed shared with NationSports. “Securing such a vital result on the road is never simple, but the team displayed hunger, resilience, and composure.”

Muhammed, a dedicated NFF Congressman, highlighted the impressive leadership shown by Chelle in his debut match, suggesting that this commitment will prove essential in the upcoming five qualifiers, beginning with tomorrow’s clash against Zimbabwe in Uyo. “The new coach has brought a fresh energy and a hands-on management style that I really admire,” Muhammed remarked with his characteristic warm smile. “He could be an ideal match for the team if he keeps delivering results. Plus, his inclination to stay connected locally rather than coaching from afar will benefit our domestic league and help spotlight homegrown talent.”

However, Muhammed cautioned that the Super Eagles’ journey to World Cup 26 qualification is far from secure. He urged the team to stay focused for the remaining fixtures, starting with Zimbabwe, warning that it would be a travesty if this talented generation misses out on the global stage. “The win in Kigali doesn’t mean we’re in the clear yet, but it’s a strong message to our rivals that we’re serious about claiming that ticket,” he said. “We’re fully committed to qualifying and won’t accept anything less.”

He added, “A victory against Zimbabwe on Tuesday would be a huge step forward. While we can’t control how other teams fare, let’s handle our business and hope our competitors stumble, paving the way for us to board that plane to the World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Can you imagine a tournament without this gifted crop of Nigerian stars? It’s unthinkable that Victor Osimhen hasn’t played on that stage yet, and with players like Ademola Lookman—the reigning African Player of the Year—this squad deserves to shine at the world’s grandest football event.”

In the spirit of Ramadan, Muhammed offered prayers for the Super Eagles’ success in their quest for a World Cup 26 berth. “Let’s stay optimistic and prepare for every possibility so we don’t falter again,” he advised. “Ultimately, I’m confident the Nigerian spirit will carry us to our goal.”
