March 29, 2024 Student Goes Missing Following Tragic Stampede at Nasarawa Palliative Event

John Rudeh, a senior student in his 400-level at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has been reported missing.

The university's Students Security Task Force (SSTF) issued a statement revealing that Rudeh disappeared on Friday, March 22, 2024, during a stampede preceding the distribution of rice palliatives donated by the Nasarawa State Government.

According to the SSTF, Rudeh was among those caught in the chaos of the stampede, and despite exhaustive efforts to locate him, his whereabouts remain unknown. His family raised an alarm after failing to establish contact with him following the tragic incident.Tragically, prior to Rudeh's disappearance, two other students had lost their lives in the stampede. Reports suggest they were vying for rice intended for distribution as palliatives by the state government when the fatal accident occurred.

The students allegedly forcibly gained access to the warehouse storing the food items, overpowering the security personnel stationed there. Some students who were supposed beneficiaries of the Nasarawa state government's palliative measures were issued ID cards granting them access to the distribution venue at NSUK's convocation square. However, amidst the chaos, two female students succumbed to suffocation, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State expressed profound regret over the loss of the two students during the stampede at the school's palliative distribution event. Speaking as a guest on Channels Television's Politics, the governor emphasized that the unfortunate incident was not a result of negligence or inadequate planning on the part of the government.
