Following Nigeria's defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, Minister of Sports Development John Enoh is lending his support to Nigerian football star Alex Iwobi, whom cyberbullies have targeted in the aftermath of the match.
Nigeria faced Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 AFCON, resulting in a loss for the Nigerian team. Alex Iwobi, who played approximately 80 minutes in the game, became the subject of heavy criticism, which escalated into cyberbullying.
In response to the online abuse directed at the footballer, Iwobi deleted all photos from his Instagram handle and restricted the comment section on the one remaining post. Minister John Enoh has strongly condemned the mistreatment endured by Iwobi, showing solidarity with the Fulham player during this challenging time.
I strongly condemn the cyberbullying of Alex Iwobi or any other sportsman or woman.
They give a lot if not all of themselves when representing our Nation, the least we can do is rally support for them, be kind and gracious with words and actions towards them.
