Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde joined the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress in a peaceful protest on Tuesday.
The workers initiated their protest from the NLC state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, and proceeded to the Gate, NTA, and Yemetu roundabouts, where Governor Makinde joined them.
During the demonstration, Governor Makinde reassured the protesters that the current challenges would soon be addressed. He expressed awareness of the hardships faced by the people and emphasized his commitment to being part of the solution.
Governor Makinde stated, "I am aware of the hardship in town and the difficulty the people are going through, but I will be part of the generation that will fix the country." He also pledged to ensure that the workers' letters of protest and grievances would reach President Bola Tinubu.
Prior to the governor's involvement, the state NLC Chairman, Kayode Martins, highlighted the unbearable cost of living, particularly for the average citizen. He emphasized the frustration felt by the populace, stating, "The cost of living in Nigeria today is nothing to write home about, and the people are fed up, so that's why we are on the street now."
