June 7, 2024 Saudi Arabia Announces June 16 as Sallah Day

Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, signaling the beginning of the 12th Islamic month. The announcement was made on Thursday, confirming that tomorrow will mark the start of the holy month. The Hajj pilgrimage for 1445 AH-2024 will begin on Friday, June 14, with the Day of Arafah occurring on Saturday, June 15.

As a result, the Muslim festival of Eid Al-Adha will be observed on Sunday, June 16, 2024. The Day of Arafah, preceding the festival, will be on June 15.

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court called on all Muslims in the Kingdom to participate in the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah. This practice helps determine the start of the new month and the exact date of the festival in the Islamic calendar.

Eid Al-Adha, the largest Islamic festival, is celebrated on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. It is the second major Islamic festival, following Eid-ul-Fitr, and is observed by Muslims worldwide.
