April 3, 2025 Sanwo-Olu Visits Independence Bridge, Says Sorry for Traffic Jam

After Lagos residents faced a massive traffic jam on Independence Bridge on Wednesday, April 2, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu swung by the area on Thursday, April 3, to check on the repair work. Jubril Gawat, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, said Sanwo-Olu got there at 9:59 a.m. with some state officials in tow. Gawat posted a video of the visit on X (once called Twitter), writing: “FLASH: Governor @jidesanwoolu hit up Independence Bridge, Bonny Camp Road this morning to see the repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works. He rolled in at 9:59 a.m. with state officials.”

In another post, Sanwo-Olu said sorry to Lagosians for the traffic mess caused by the repairs. He explained that the plan to fix the bridge had been around for over three years and was critical to avoid a bigger problem. The job’s being done by Buildwell Construction, overseen by the Federal Ministry of Works. The governor promised that alternative routes will be spruced up even better than before, with extra traffic cops and security folks on duty, like during December. He also asked people to follow traffic rules and suggested offices let staff work from home or online while the repairs are on.
