Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the demolition of Jankara and two markets in Lagos Island to curtail flooding and other environmental degradation caused by the markets.
During an inspection tour of the flooded parts of Ojo Giwa, Princess, Oroyiyin, Idumagbo and Pelewura areas in Lagos Island, the governor gave the order.
The governor said the drainage and regeneration tour of the state area said many illegal structures built in the markets had blocked the drainage channels.
The governor was accompanied by the state Commissioners for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho and the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, among other top government officials.
Governor Sanwoolu also visited the Ilubirin area, with ongoing regeneration projects.
