July 22, 2022 Sadio Mane Crowned Footballer Of The Year At 2022 CAF Awards

Sadio Mane was named African Footballer of the Year for the second time in a row at the 2022 CAF awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco.

Mane scored the game-winning penalty as Senegal defeated Egypt in a shootout to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time.

"I am very, very happy to receive the trophy this year," The 30-year-old said as he accepted his award.

Sadio Mane defeated compatriot and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, as well as former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, whose Egypt side was defeated in the AFCON final in February

Mane's award was one of five won by Senegal in a total of seven men's categories on a memorable night for the West African country.

Long-serving Senegalese manager Aliou Cisse was named coach of the year, and his team was named men's team of the year, while Pape Sarr was named young player of the year and another Senegalese, Pape Ousmane Sakho, was named best goal for his overhead kick for Tanzanian side Simba.
