The Rivers State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all political office holders and appointees throughout the state. This decision was outlined in a statement released on Wednesday by the Chief of Staff to the state’s Administrator, citing the authority granted to Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Administrator of Rivers State, by President Bola Tinubu.
The suspension impacts a wide range of officials, including:
- The Secretary to the State Government (SSG)
- The Chief of Staff
- All Honourable Commissioners
- Chairmen and members of boards, councils of agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals
- All Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants
According to the statement, the affected officials are required to hand over their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). In situations where no Permanent Secretary is available, the most senior Director or Head of Administration will assume control.
This order went into effect on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

THOSE SUSPENDED INCLUDE;
1.THE SECRETARY TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT
- THE CHIEF OF STAFF
- HONOURABLE COMMISSIONERS
- CHAIRMEN AND MEMBERS OF ALL BOARDS, COUNCILS OF AGENCIES, COMMISSIONS, INSTITUTIONS, AND PARASTATALS.
- SPECIAL ADVISERS, SPECIAL ASISSTANTS, AND SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANTS.
