The All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has issued a stark ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara: resign or brace for impeachment. The demand erupted in response to Fubara’s invitation to a breakfast meeting with 27 pro-Wike lawmakers at Government House on Monday—an olive branch the APC slammed as a “Greek Gift.”
Rivers APC Chairman Tony Okocha didn’t mince words, accusing Fubara of desperation and disrespect. He pointed to the governor’s track record since 2023, claiming Fubara has thumbed his nose at President Ahmed Tinubu’s mediation efforts and flouted court rulings with impunity. “This invitation is a trap, pure and simple,” Okocha told journalists. “The Supreme Court’s judgment is final—there’s no wiggle room. Fubara’s only paths now are resignation or removal.”
Okocha dismissed the meeting as illegal and overdue, doubling down with a biting proverb: “It’s sheer folly, like a bird challenging its own god to a fight. We’ve warned him before—if you drag infested firewood home, don’t be surprised when lizards show up to feast.” The chairman’s jab painted Fubara’s move as a self-inflicted wound, inviting chaos by cozying up to lawmakers loyal to his rival, Nyesom Wike.
The APC’s salvo escalates an already volatile political showdown in Rivers State. With tensions simmering and the governor’s next step unclear, one question looms: will Fubara fold, or is this the spark that ignites his downfall?
