May 9, 2023 Rema Set To Break Record For Longest Charting African Song On Billboard Hot 100

Nigerian artist Rema has achieved international superstardom with his hit single 'Calm Down', which has dominated charts and earned awards worldwide.

In the latest installment of the Billboard Hot 100, 'Calm Down' extended its stay on the chart to 35 weeks, matching the African record set by Wizkid's 'Essence' featuring Tems & Justin Bieber.

Rema also set a new African record for the highest charting African song on the chart with a No. 5 entry, breaking his previous record of No. 6. With a top 5 record, he is guaranteed to set a new African record for the longest charting song, needing just one more charting week to achieve this giant stride.

Since the release of the 'Calm Down' remix featuring Selena Gomez, Rema has skyrocketed to international fame with the single earning a Diamond plaque in France, Platinum in the UK and the US, and earning plaques in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Canada, Poland, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Denmark, and Portugal.

The single recently became the first African single to reach the summit of the Billboard Pop Radio chart, and it also holds the record for the longest No. 1 song on the Billboard US Afrobeats songs chart. Rema's success is a testament to his talent and the growing popularity of Afrobeats music worldwide.
