Real Madrid’s defensive woes worsened ahead of their Champions League showdown against Manchester City, as Lucas Vazquez has been sidelined with a thigh injury.
The club confirmed on Sunday that Vazquez would not travel to Manchester, with Spanish reports indicating he could be out for three weeks. His absence adds to Madrid’s growing defensive concerns, with Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal, and Eder Militao also unavailable.
Los Blancos, the reigning European champions, will first take on City at the Etihad Stadium before hosting the return leg on February 19.
Vazquez picked up the injury during Saturday’s 1-1 derby draw against Atletico Madrid, where he was substituted in the 81st minute. Despite the setback, Madrid remains atop La Liga, maintaining a one-point lead over their city rivals.
