On Monday, a significant group of women gathered in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, to rally in favor of declaring a state of emergency in the region. This demonstration follows a protest just four days earlier by supporters of the suspended governor, who demanded the leader’s reinstatement.
The women advocating for the emergency rule emphasized the need for peace in Rivers State, rejecting the leadership of the embattled governor. They carried placards with messages such as “State of Emergency Is Constitutional,” “No Tribal War in Rivers State, No More Fubara,” and “We Need Peace, Not Fubara,” signaling their opposition to the former governor’s tenure.
Hon. Gladys Nweke, a former Vice Chairman of Etche Local Government Area and one of the rally’s organizers, spoke to journalists, stating:
“We are here for a solidarity march to support the state of emergency in Rivers State. Since its declaration, we’ve seen peace return. There are no more reports of killings or cult activities in the state.”
