In a recent development, the Nigeria Police has expressed strong disapproval of the way their uniform has been depicted in comedy skits by former Naval officer and renowned skit maker, Abdulgafar Abiola, popularly known as Cute Abiola.

According to the police, Cute Abiola's recent skits, which were shared on his social media handles on July 20 and 24, 2023, have painted the force in an unfavorable light. The condemnation was officially communicated through a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday.

The spokesperson for the police highlighted that the skits in question displayed a highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal of the police uniform, which, in their view, goes against the provisions of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.

Consequently, Cute Abiola is slated to undergo investigation, and there is a possibility of prosecution, as the Nigerian Police Force had previously cautioned skit makers and filmmakers against tarnishing the image of their uniform or accessories.

Adejobi used this opportunity to call upon all Nigerians to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and refrain from participating in actions that may undermine the trust the public places in their esteemed law enforcement institutions.

It's worth noting that Cute Abiola resigned from the Nigerian Navy in the previous year to pursue a career in comedy, expressing gratitude for the discipline instilled in him during his service in the Navy, which he believes contributed to his success in life.
