Popular social media influencer Martins Otse, known online as Verydarkman (VDM), has been detained by the Nigeria Police Force. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, shared the news Thursday night via a post on his Facebook page, explaining that the detention occurred after VDM honored a police invitation.
“Our client, VDM, has been detained after honoring a police invitation,” Adeyanju wrote, adding, “VDM has consistently said the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we know they are not.”
VDM’s detention may be linked to a recent incident involving his use of a police uniform in a viral social media video. Last week, the Nigeria Police publicly condemned the unauthorized use of its uniforms and accessories in the video posted by VDM.

Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed in a statement that an investigation into the video was underway.
