Peoples Democratic Party has rejected INEC’s declaration of the Osun state governorship election inconclusive.
INEC had declared the election inconclusive, saying the requirement for a winner to emerge on first ballot was not met.
Announcing the results, the returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. JOSEPH ADEOLA AFUWAPE said the candidate of the PDP, ADEMOLA ADELEKE, polled 254 , 698 votes while GBOYEGA OYETOLA of the APC polled 254 , 698 votes .
Quoting INEC’sStanding Rules ,AFUWAPE, said since the margin between the two leading candidates was lower than the registered cancelled votes , the election had to be declared inconclusive .
But, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, KOLA OLOGBONDIYAN described the declaration as a “sordid robbery of the franchise of the people of the state”, calling on INEC to immediately declare ADELEKE the winner.
INEC has fixed the rerun election in the state for September 27th.
