With that strike, Osimhen climbed to second place on Nigeria’s scoring chart, now hot on the trail of the late Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals. It was his first game in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and he hit his 24th goal in just his 39th match for Nigeria. He’d tied Odegbami’s mark last November in a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
