September 26, 2023 Ogun State Cancels Independence Day Celebrations In Solidarity With The Nation’s Mood

In a statement released on September 26, 2023, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, announced the cancellation of the 63rd Independence Day celebration originally scheduled for Sunday, October 1, 2023.

This decision aligns with the Federal Government's directive to observe a subdued celebration this year.

The statement emphasised that the Federal Government's choice of a low-key celebration mirrors the prevailing sentiment in the nation.

It read, “Following the directive of the Federal Government that this year’s Independence Day Celebration should be low-key, the Ogun State Government has cancelled all arrangements regarding the anniversary on October 1st, 2023."

The government urged state citizens to spend the day solemnly praying for the country. It expressed a steadfast belief that the collective supplications of the people during this crucial time will be met with divine intervention.

Additionally, the State Government implored the understanding and cooperation of the state's residents in observing this low-key independence anniversary with the optimistic outlook that brighter days lie ahead.
