September 18, 2023 Official Police Investigation Commences Into Mohbad’s Passing

The Lagos State Police Command has set up a dedicated 13-member team to probe the untimely demise of Nigerian singer Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023.

This significant development was disclosed by Idowu Owohunwa, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, during a press briefing on Monday, September 18th, 2023. In attendance were the late singer's grieving parents.

Commissioner Owohunwa underscored the commitment to bringing those responsible for Mohbad's passing to justice, assuring the public that the police force can collaborate with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) if necessary. He stated, "Wherever you are in this world, do not forget, we have unique access to INTERPOL."

The Commissioner refrained from divulging specific names related to the investigation but emphasised that all individuals linked to the case would be identified and held accountable within legal boundaries. He emphasised, "We don't want to isolate specific characters; all facts, including videos and other things mentioned... Let's proceed with the investigation, and as we have it, to identify individuals, we could pick on whoever within the constraints of the law and they would be required to come and clarify."

This development comes in response to widespread public demand for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer's tragic demise. Concerns were heightened after videos circulated on social media showing Mohbad being subjected to harassment and assault by former record label members at Marlian Music.

Before his passing, Mohbad released a video implicating his former associates, Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, suggesting they were accountable in the event of his demise. It was also reported that he sought police protection in a formal request. However, following his passing, both individuals denied any involvement in harming Mohbad, stating he was "like a brother" to them.

The news of the investigation has been met with relief and approval from Mohbad's fans, as well as celebrities and concerned Nigerians who have been advocating for justice in this tragic case.
