Mudashiru Obasa, the embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly who was recently ousted, made a dramatic appearance at the state House of Assembly on Monday.
Obasa joined a group of lawmakers for a meeting that took place outside the Assembly’s chamber. The current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, was also present at this gathering. The meeting later split into two separate groups, each consisting of at least 10 lawmakers.
The turmoil began in January when lawmakers impeached Obasa during his absence in the United States. Upon returning, Obasa labeled his removal as unconstitutional, arguing that it failed to adhere to proper legal procedures.
Last week, he escalated tensions by storming the Assembly, forcibly entering the Speaker’s office, and presiding over a plenary session. During this session, he boldly asserted that he had never been legitimately removed from his position as Speaker.
