January 12, 2023 Nottingham Forest Secure Semi-Final Spot After Shoot-out Success in Carabao Cup

Nottingham Forest won 4-3 on penalties against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the League Cup last-eight on Wednesday, advancing to the semi-finals for the first time in almost two decades.

After the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved Joe Hodge’s penalty shot in the shootout to put his team through to their first semi-final since reaching the League Cup final in 1992.

Willy Boly gave Forest the lead after 18 minutes, finishing from close range after an earlier Serge Aurier attempt hit the post and Wolves failed to clear.

In the second half, Jimenez easily tapped in at the back post after replacement Matheus Cunha delivered a well-timed pass across the face of goal towards the Mexican.

As the game approached the conclusion of regular time, Wolves had a penalty claim waved down when Matheus Nunes seemed to be tripped in the area, with Aurier, Daniel Podence, Nunes, and Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui all receiving bookings for their responses.
