On Thursday, operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command successfully thwarted a brazen attack by bandits in Keta town, located in the Tsafe Local Government Area. DSP Yazid Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement released from Gusau.
According to Abubakar, the police operation resulted in the elimination of numerous bandits, including the infamous kingpin Dan Mudale, a wanted criminal notorious for terrorizing Tsafe and surrounding areas. The confrontation began around 3:40 p.m. when a vigilant citizen alerted authorities to the presence of heavily armed bandits infiltrating Keta town with malicious intent.
Swiftly responding to the threat, a combined force of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, local hunters, and Community Protection Guards launched a coordinated counterattack. "The joint team engaged the bandits in intense combat," Abubakar stated, highlighting the fierce resistance met by the assailants.
Tragically, the operation came at a high cost. One police officer, four members of the Community Protection Guard, and two hunters lost their lives in the line of duty. Additionally, two injured hunters are currently receiving medical care at the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau.
Despite the losses, the Zamfara State Police Command reiterated its unwavering dedication to restoring peace across the region. The force called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies to ensure swift action against criminal elements.
