July 27, 2021 No Immediate Extradition As Cotonou Court Detains Sunday Igboho

The Beninese appeal court sitting in Cotonou has detained Yoruba Nation agitator, SUNDAY ADEYEMO, popularly called SUNDAY IGBOHO.

This was after court sessions which lasted for more than ten hours.

IGBOHO’s lawyers battled to secure bail for the activist but the court only granted him access to medical care after the marathon sessions which ended at about 11:20pm (Nigerian time).

The court sessions started at noon, but there were intermittent breaks during the hearing.

Details of the eventual judgement are still sketchy, but sources say the judgment means there will be no immediate extradition for the youth leader.

Journalists, monarchs, and supporters who came to court for the case were barred from witnessing his hearing.

IGBOHO and his wife, ROPO, were arrested at an airport in Cotonou last week, while on the way to Germany. The wife was however later released.
