October 24, 2024 Nigeria’s Super Eagles Rise Three Places in Latest FIFA Rankings

The Super Eagles have climbed three spots in the latest FIFA rankings, now sitting at 36th globally. This rise comes after their 1-0 victory over Libya in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier earlier this month. On the continental stage, Nigeria is ranked fourth in Africa.

At the top of Africa's rankings, Morocco’s Atlas Lions lead, placing 13th in the world, followed by Senegal at 20th. Egypt (30th), Nigeria (36th), and Algeria (37th) round out the top five African teams.

FIFA highlighted further progress for African teams, noting significant jumps for Comoros (108th) and Sudan (110th), both climbing 10 places after strong performances in their recent AFCON 2025 qualifiers.

Globally, Argentina maintains the number one spot, followed by France. Spain ranks third, while England, Brazil, and Belgium complete the top six. Portugal is seventh, the Netherlands eighth, Italy ninth, and Colombia tenth.

Other notable movers in the rankings include Algeria (37th, up 4), Peru (38th, up 5), and Greece (42nd, up 6). Cameroon also re-entered the top 50, rising four places to 49th.

The October 2024 rankings follow a packed month of football, with qualifiers for both the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the AFCON 2025. FIFA reported that October saw 32 World Cup qualifiers, 47 AFCON qualifiers, 79 Nations League matches, and 17 friendlies, contributing to significant changes in the rankings.
