March 17, 2025 Nigerian Government Allegedly Plotting My Arrest – Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Sounds Alarm

Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has raised concerns over an alleged plan by Nigerian security officials to arrest her upon her return to the country. The senator, who is currently in the United States following her participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in New York on March 11, claims the move is connected to her outspoken remarks at the event.

During the IPU meeting, Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan highlighted her suspension from the Nigerian Senate and brought forward allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In a telephone interview on Sunday, she revealed, “I’m aware there are plans underway to have me arrested as soon as I arrive in Abuja.”

While the senator did not specify which security agency is involved in the alleged plot, reports suggest that Nigeria’s internal and external intelligence agencies have initiated an investigation into her attendance at the IPU meeting. According to sources, the State Security Service (SSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are probing how she gained access to the event without official nomination.

A high-ranking government official and two top security personnel involved in the investigation disclosed that the agencies are examining who facilitated her trip and accreditation, as well as whether her participation was orchestrated by interest groups to embarrass Nigeria, its government, and its citizens.

Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations have sparked further debate about political tensions and freedom of expression in Nigeria, as she remains abroad while the situation unfolds.
