In a recent interview, Nigerian comedian and skit maker Ereme Abraham, popularly known as Twyse, shared a deeply personal and troubling experience from his past.
He recalled a dark period in 2016 when he contemplated suicide and made some startling revelations about the lack of support he received during that time.
During the interview, Twyse spoke candidly about his lowest moment, emphasising that he felt utterly alone and on the brink of ending his life in 2016. He acknowledged that only a handful of individuals, including a pastor and celebrities like Falz Falana, stepped up to offer their support during his darkest hours. However, he lamented that once he emerged from his depression, everyone abandoned him, including actress Toyin Abraham.
When the host expressed disbelief over Twyse's claim that Toyin Abraham disregarded him, especially considering her public plea for him to stay alive, he chose his words carefully. Twyse replied, "Brother, everybody should get the clue; I won't say anything. Everybody should pick whatever they can pick from that information. The problem is many people were talking about it, but not a lot was being done in the background."
Twyse made more disheartening revelations, stating that nobody reached out to him after he had overcome his depression. He alleged that those he tried to contact for support completely ignored him. He said, "I didn't hear anything from anybody. Maybe they did, but I didn't hear anything. I tried to reach out to some of these people, but they just aired me. I wanted to bring gifts and say thanks, but they didn't respond, and I don't know why. I don't want to say that we're in the showbiz world, but let's leave it at that."
Twyse's story sheds light on individuals' challenges in dealing with mental health issues, even in the public eye. His revelations serve as a reminder of the importance of providing genuine support to those struggling, both during their darkest moments and on their journey to recovery.
