September 20, 2023 NIDCOM Petitions Egypt Air For Justice Over Death Of Nigerian Passenger

Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has taken action in the pursuit of justice for the untimely passing of Nigerian national Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye on September 4, 2023, while aboard Egypt Air.

Expressing deep concern over EgyptAir’s apparent lack of responsiveness, Dabiri-Erewa has officially petitioned the airline for answers. Dabiri-Erewa emphasised the need to thoroughly investigate this tragic event in a personally signed letter delivered to EgyptAir's Abuja office.

The case was brought to NIDCOM's attention through a petition submitted by Olufunmilola Olaniyi-Alabi, the deceased's elder sister residing in the UK. Olaniyi-Alabi asked for answers from the family, who had been left in the dark regarding the circumstances of Remilekun's passing.

Since the incident, EgyptAir’s management has failed to initiate contact with any member of the grieving family or the designated next of kin, raising concerns and adding to the family's distress.

NIDCOM, on behalf of the grieving family and the Federal Government of Nigeria, is demanding full disclosure regarding the circumstances surrounding Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye's sudden and unfortunate passing on Egyptair's flight.

Dabiri-Erewa, offering her condolences and prayers for Remilekun's soul, assures the family that justice will be served in memory of their loved one.

Remilekun Meshioye, 41 years old and bound for London to resume her studies, departed Lagos for London via Egypt Air MS 876 on Monday, September 4, 2023, from Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. Tragically, she fell ill during the flight and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Cairo International Airport.

The family, informed by the Nigeria consular office in Cairo, urgently seeks information on the circumstances surrounding Remilekun's death, the repatriation of her remains for a peaceful burial, and the return of her belongings held by the airline.
