Newcastle and Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal of £12 million plus add-ons for England full-back Kieran Trippier.
The 31-year-old is expected to be Newcastle's first signing under their new Saudi owners, as well as Eddie Howe's first since taking over in November.
Trippier, who signed Atletico Madrid for £20 million from Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, will have a physical on Wednesday.
Howe, who signed him while he was at Burnley, will be reunited with him.
Trippier had 83 appearances for Real Madrid, who won La Liga last season.
Last summer, the defender was a member of the England team that advanced to the Euro 2020 final.
Newcastle is the Premier League's second-worst team, having won just one game all season.
They play Cambridge United at home in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, before visiting fellow strugglers Watford in the league on January 15.
