January 8, 2019 NEW MINIMUM WAGE MEETING AGAIN ENDS IN DEADLOCK AS LABOUR BEGINS NATIONWIDE STRIKE

The tripartite committee meeting has once again failed to reach a consensus over the new minimum wage.

Members of the committee include labour leaders, the organized private sector and the federal government team.

Present at the meeting were the NLC President Ayuba Wabba, the Budget and National Planning Minister, Udo Udoma; while the United Labour Congress was represented by Igwe Achese.

Chairman of the committee, Ms. Ama Pepple says both the 30,000 naira stance of the organized labour and the 24,000 naira proposed by the federal government would be submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for onward submission to the National Assembly.

However, the organized labour has begun their nationwide strike over the new national minimum wage in accordance the directive of the three labour centres, that’s the NLC, TUC and ULC.
