The deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi the Second has said he is going to challenge his banishment in the court of law.
SANUSI’s lawyer, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), made this known during a press conference in his chamber while stressing that the former emir had however not given them any directive to challenge his dethronement.
According to Mahmoud, the archaic practice of banishment of deposed Emirs, which was a colonial practice, has no basis under Nigerian law or the Constitution.
Mahmoud said the Kano State Government would be sued if the former emir was not released within 24 hours.

He described SANUSI’s detention as illegal and unconstitutional and therefore called on the relevant to ensure his immediate release.
