The family of the popular comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has taken a stand to address the swirling rumours on social media regarding the actor's health.
Contrary to speculations, the family clarified that Mr Ibu had undergone amputation on just one leg, not both. In a statement shared on the actor's Instagram page on Sunday, the family refuted claims connecting Mr Ibu's health challenges to diabetes.
Instead, they disclosed that he has been contending with blood clotting in his leg, attributed to diseased blood vessels. The statement clarified, "We want to make it clear that our daddy wasn't amputated on both legs but only one. The initial amputation didn't fully resolve his health predicament, prompting the doctors to proceed with further amputation on the same leg to ensure we didn't lose him.
Daddy's illness is not diabetes; it involves persistent clotting of the blood in his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges posing a risk to his life, hence the necessity for the amputation." Despite plans to transport Mr. Ibu abroad for advanced medical treatment, doctors have deemed him "Not Fit to Fly," presenting difficulties securing transportation as no airline is willing to accommodate him in his current condition.
The family emphasized that Mr Ibu is presently under the care of a highly skilled professional medical team at one of Nigeria's prominent hospitals. The family appealed to friends, colleagues, fans, and the public to include Mr. Ibu in their prayers and cautioned against spreading unverified reports about his health.
