The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, revealed that many of the illegal weapons circulating in Nigeria were originally part of the Federal Government’s arsenal. Ribadu made this statement during an arms destruction exercise held by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja on Thursday.

He explained that these weapons found their way into the hands of non-state actors, including terrorists and bandits, due to corrupt elements within the security agencies. Ribadu strongly condemned those security personnel who facilitate the illegal distribution of arms and assured that the government is committed to taking all necessary measures to restore and maintain national security.
