June 7, 2023 Lionel Messi To Join Inter Miami After Leaving PSG

Argentina football legend Lionel Messi is set to make a move to Inter Miami, an American club, following his departure from Paris St-Germain, the French champions.

Despite receiving a more lucrative offer from Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabian team, Messi has decided to reject it.

The deal with Inter Miami involves collaborations with renowned brands such as Adidas and Apple.

The 35-year-old forward, who has won the title of the world's best player seven times, is expected to claim the award once again later this year following his success in the World Cup.

This move marks the first time that the iconic Barcelona player will be playing outside of Europe. While he initially wanted to continue in Europe for another season, he did not receive any satisfactory offers. Ultimately, he had to choose between Inter Miami and Al-Hilal.

It was widely speculated that Messi was leaning towards a move to Saudi Arabia, where he would have joined Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in the league, in a deal that offered unmatched financial rewards.

However, Messi was ultimately swayed by the appeal of joining Major League Soccer's Inter Miami, considering factors such as lifestyle and a partnership with major brands that extends beyond football.

Messi already owns a house in Miami, which he currently rents out.

Although he expressed a desire to return to Barcelona this summer, the Financial Fair Play restrictions that will be in effect next season in La Liga made it impossible for any ambitious plans to bring him back.

During his time with Paris St-Germain, Messi helped the team win Ligue 1 in both seasons, but their Champions League campaign ended in the round of 16, leading to his tenure in France being seen as somewhat unsuccessful.

In his 75 appearances for the club, he scored 32 goals and finished this season with 16 goals and 16 assists in Ligue 1.

Messi's two-year contract with Paris St-Germain is coming to an end this summer, and both parties agreed to part ways. In May, the forward was suspended for two weeks due to an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia.

His legacy is largely shaped by his time at Barcelona and his World Cup victory with Argentina in December.

Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after spending 21 years with the club due to their financial difficulties.

With 672 goals, Messi is Barcelona's all-time leading scorer and has won 10 La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, and seven Spanish Cups.
