October 14, 2024 Libyan Authorities Bows to Pressure, Super Eagles to Return to Nigeria

The Super Eagles, Nigeria's national football team, are set to return home after being stranded in Libya for over 15 hours. Following pressure from external bodies, the Libyan authorities agreed to refuel the team's chartered jet and clear their airspace.

The players and officials were abandoned at Al Abraq International Airport without access to food, water, or internet. However, sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, also known as OgaNlaMedia, confirmed that the team is now en route to Nigeria.

He shared on X: "After pressure from several quarters, the Libyan government has cleared the ValueJet flight for takeoff and sold aviation fuel to the airline." The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) insisted the flight take the team directly back to Nigeria, avoiding a landing in Benghazi.
